  • Asked about a potentially difficult situation for farmers in 2023, including on inputs, Vilsack said his agency was looking at whether USDA storage programs could be used. “Because there may well be the capacity to purchase and store which farmers could potentially utilize to get them through a potentially tough 2023 crop year.”
  • On double cropping, Vilsack acknowledged USDA should focus on crops besides wheat and soybeans, such as sorghum or sunflowers. “There is no reason we couldn’t include those... and [we] should.”
